Eating organic food these days has become a fad, especially when many of us realize that the food we usually eat, even though “fresh” contains chemicals and preservatives. It is unfortunate though, that organic foods are quite expensive. Thus, why not try growing one’s own organic garden?
What are the advantages of growing your own food? They contain no or lesser chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers, etc.). Thus, it is good not only for one’s health but also for the environment. Moreover, they are fresher, taste better and last longer.
The Internet is full of resources when it comes to growing a garden. One can even buy a composter online if he can’t find one at local shops. Purchasing gardening supplies and tools is pretty convenient too as these are already available in many supermarkets.
Now that I am a full-time domestic goddess (cook, laundrywoman, housemaid, school bus and everything in between), I started dabbling on cooking. Now, I have put into good use the recipe books that I have hoarded for many years. Also, I am grateful that I have my father to consult and ask for advices whenever I am clueless on something or when Google does not give me the answer that I need. It is from him and my two grandmothers (may their souls rest in peace) that I got my late-blooming love for the kitchen. I have been a foodie but I rarely cooked.
Just this morning, I tried a noodle recipe which I hope to last until tomorrow. During the weekdays, there’s just me and my daughter so there are some food that lasts us for days. Most often, I just keep them in the refrigerator and heat up a portion whenever we eat. And I do cook something in between because eating the same food for several days is never fun. During the weekends, I try to prepare something special since the most special man in my life (ahem) is home. This weekend, there’ll be fruit salad and kare-kare which I think to be very intimidating. But with the help of a prepared and store-bought mix, I know I will survive.
Wish me luck!
Since I seem to be stuck in a scrapbooking rut, I have decided to dabble into another craft and that is molding with polymer clay. I joined a workshop late last year and have been trying to practice for sporadically for some months now. Most of my creations are food-themed since that’s what was taught to us during the workshop. I tried making a chibi too but I was not that successful. Some friends also requested that I make baby-themed stuff like a pacifier and baby jogger city select 2012 stroller. That will happen soon.
I have accumulated a number of tools, cutters and molders and tried to experiment on some materials too. Obviously, I do major hoarding and not much creating. *sigh* But let me show you some of my few finished creation using oven-baked and air-dry polymer clays.
