An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Quite a cliché but it has all the truth to it. Experts are suggesting that we take at least 3 to 5 kinds of fruits per day as it helps to make us healthy. Fruits are a rich source of a lot of vitamins and minerals that can help our body fight diseases.

For many, it is difficult to maintain the daily requirement of fruit consumption per day but this can be easily achieved by drinking Smoothie. Smoothie is a fruit drink that can be prepared with the aid of a blender. Fresh fruits or vegetables are used to make a smoothie eliminating the preservatives that can be bad for our body. The common fruits that can be use to make a smoothie include bananas, strawberries, and blueberries and dairy products like yogurt and milk can also be added to make the smoothie protein rich. Blending is a very healthy way to make a fruit drink as it breaks down the fruit thereby releasing the nutrients to the drink which will readily be absorbed by the body upon drinking.

So why drink a smoothie? Here are some of its benefits:

  1. Good source of fiber. Since smoothie is prepared using a blender, all the pulp of the fruit is included with the drink and pulp is a rich source of fiber. Fiber is good for the body as it helps promote proper digestion. This will help flush out the bad toxins in our body which can also bring about a healthier and glowing skin.
  2. Aids in weight loss. Smoothie is also the recommended drink for those who want to lose weight. Since it is rich in fiber, smoothie leaves the drinker feeling full for a long time which eliminates the in-between meals which easily adds up to the calorie intake of someone who wants to loose weight.
  3. Rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants fight the free radicals which causes havoc to our health. It helps lower the bad cholesterol, improve cardiovascular health, prevent deadly diseases like cancer and boost our body’s immune system.
  4. Boost energy. Smoothie contains natural sugar which makes it a good energy booster. The natural sugar that our body gets from smoothie will not cause fluctuation in sugar levels which can be experience when eating or drinking foods rich in sugar like candy. This also makes smoothie a good choice to satisfy sugar cravings.

Smoothie is indeed a rich source of vitamins and minerals that our body needs. It is very easy to make and a very satisfying drink too. So start your day with a healthy glass of smoothie and enjoy the numerous benefits that it can bring like the ones mentioned above.

Gone were the days when cupcakes were plain and boring. People have found many ways to make those bite-size treats not only pleasing to our tastes but to our eyes as well. Take a look at this beautiful and ingenious cupcake:

The colors remind me of the really pretty yoga sandals that I saw in a shop yesterday. I wtipould have bought them if I were into yoga myself!

So, are you a baker and wants to know how to bake hearts into your cupcakes? I know you do! If you followed the link and the steps stated there, show me your finished products when you’re done!

Valentine’s day is just around the corner and I have already bought a card and some presents for the husband. My daughter and I hopped from one shop to another last Thursday after our parent-teacher’s conference. We saw some really nice shirts which the husband needs and a bottle of discount cologne. I already bought us some cards – two for the husband (from yours truly and her small girl) and another for the daughter from her dad.

February 13 is a non-working day for the husband so we planned on celebrating our Valentine’s Day ahead of everyone else. We hope to see the movie, The Vow and eat some good food, of course. Our daughter will be at school though so we’ll have the celebration with her around dinner time.

Today, I chanced upon a Filipino food blogger, The Hungry Giant. He made his own foccacia and shared the recipe. I find it inspiring to see a fellow amateur cook try his hand on cooking and baking. Aside from being a foodie, he is also a self-confessed carnivore, something to which I can strongly relate too. Hahaha!

His post on foccacia reminded me of a close friend of mine. We were arguing Facebook chat regarding a debt advice that we both read online. She seem to agree with the advice but I wasn’t. And then out of the blue, during that friendly argument, she requested for foccacia. Now, I have two electric ovens but I have not baked anything edible yet. Besides, I had no idea what foccacia is but a little research did help. I told her that we’ll just buy her a loaf somewhere but she disagreed and demanded requested that I bake instead of buying. But since I still lack the confidence to bake real food (as I have been baking sweet treats using polymer clay), it can’t be done any time soon so we have to settle for store-bought foccacia for now.
