Nowadays, a cake is not only something that our taste buds feast on during an occasion. These days, cakes are designed to fit the event’s theme.  It does not matter if it’s a birthday, a wedding or anniversary, cake decorators are loaded with skills, tools and creativity that can make your dream cake come alive. Holding a cartoon character themed party? You will have a plenty of options from Minnie Mouse, Elmo, Disney Princesses and even the recent favorite – Angry Birds. You can even have your hammond organ be made into an edible creation, if you are a music fanatic. I did a quick online search online and found some really cool cake designs for music-themed parties. Here is one that caught my fancy:

The cake being one of the highlights of a party, must tell you what the party is all about. It must highlight the party’s theme. A rock star or music-themed party will require invitations, decorations, costumes, activities and yes, cake (or cakes) that jive with the theme, which of course, fits the taste, preference and personality of the celebrant.

My daily surfing today led me to the discovery of this delectable and easy-to-do No Bake Oreo Cheesecake from bakersroyale.com. The ingredients are conveniently available at my groceries so I am certainly going shop for my baking needs while the husband goes shopping for kick plates this weekend.

On another note, but still Oreo-related, this cookie was my daughter’s favorite snacks when she was in Grade 2. Every day, she would bring some to school and eat some more upon coming home and after meals. Our grocery shopping was never complete without her Oreos that year. But eventually, she started weaning from the said cookies and turned to guess what – chocolate chip cookies. Hahaha! And now that she loves Science, I know she will like learning about Moon Phases with the help of her old love, Oreo! This creative idea is from sciencebob.com.

Gone were the days when cupcakes were plain and boring. People have found many ways to make those bite-size treats not only pleasing to our tastes but to our eyes as well. Take a look at this beautiful and ingenious cupcake:

The colors remind me of the really pretty yoga sandals that I saw in a shop yesterday. I wtipould have bought them if I were into yoga myself!

So, are you a baker and wants to know how to bake hearts into your cupcakes? I know you do! If you followed the link and the steps stated there, show me your finished products when you’re done!

That sounds nice! Don’t you think? :)

I found something that my husband would surely love (that is, if I know how to bake. Hahaha!). It is a Marvel ™ Cakelet Pan, complete with Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine and The Incredible Hulk! This nifty pan is made of cast aluminum with premium nonstick finish. It does not rust and because of its nonstick finish, it releases your cake fast and each character comes out nicely done and precisely detailed. Marvel Cake Pan

Marvel ™ Cakelet Pan is available at Williams-Sonoma for $39.95.

Christmas, that is. Yesterday, many of my Facebook friends welcomed the new month with enthusiasm as it signals the start of the holiday season. At least in our country where Christmas begins September and ends a little before Valentine’s day the following year.

Speaking of Christmas, I have already started my holiday gift shopping. I am just waiting for deliveries of ordered items for my daughter’s teachers. My list is not done yet and with the ongoing sales and promos at the different malls, I am sure that I’ll be done with my shopping in no time. We have several malls here that hold sales almost every month. Just last weekend, we took advantage of one and bought my husband a really nice pair of office shoes plus some honda prelude custom floor mats for his friend. My old umbrella was also replaced and our daughter now has a bigger weekend bag. There were several home and kitchen appliances and furniture that caught my fancy but they can wait until we get our very own house, hopefully next year.

Now let’s talk about another favorite topic and indulgence during the holidays (and during the rest of the year): FOOD. Last year, we were privileged to meet some of my husband’s long lost relatives. They’ve generously taken us in and took us around the place. One thing that I won’t forget about the meet up is the the fruit cakes of varying ages that grandma fed us. One was three years old, another is one year and the last one is six months. Those were the tastiest and most delectable fruit cakes I’ve ever tasted and one day, I hope I will be brave enough to try baking. Wish me luck!
