Since the month has started, we have been attending gatherings with friends here at the metro. One was scheduled early December, the other one last Saturday night and the other was a picnic yesterday. Thus, it is not surprising to know that my weight gain is gaining momentum! I feel flabby and fat around the middle which is my worst problem. I know I can lose it since I already did one year ago. I have resolved to get back into diet and exercise AGAIN next year, after the holiday food feasts that we all have to enjoy. Someone reminded me that healthy eating and exercise are not only good to maintain my weight. It is good to live a healthy lifestyle too, to be well and fit. And I agree. I do not like hanging around the hospital. The mere sight of hospital carts terrifies me! The times that I was confined were almost due to operations and procedures that I had to undergo and not because I was terribly sick. For that, I am grateful. And it makes me more motivated to live a healthy lifestyle.
Symptoms and signs that indicate compulsive eating and binge eating disorder.
There are times when eating feels really good, when we just cannot stop munching, or when the only thing we want to do is to gobble up what is in front of us. These instances are quite normal, provided that they only happen rarely or during special occasions.
On the other hand, if these instances start becoming more than just rarities and more like a habit, then you could be suffering from a disorder known as binge eating or compulsive eating. Here are some symptoms that can help you recognize if you or someone you love has the disorder or not.
Eating too quickly. Sometimes, when you eat, it only takes you a few minutes to finish your food, without even realizing how you gobbled up each and every piece in your meal. When this happens, your body goes into automatic and this mode is what drives you to eat instead of starvation. This is just one of the many symptoms of compulsive eating.
Consuming even when you are already full. Normally after meals, most people would stop feeling the urge to eat. It’s a regular feedback mechanism to prevent the body from consuming more than it needs. But for those who have binge eating disorder, the desire to continue eating remains even way after you’re full. They never really feel satisfied or satiated.
Nonstop eating. Most people would stick to 3 meals a day. Others would have 2-3snacks more than these major meals. However, those suffering from binge eating eat more than these. In fact, those who binge usually don’t stop eating at all. After meals, they consume snacks after snacks after more snacks until the next meal. It is difficult for them to stop eating either because they’re body is on autopilot or because eating is providing them a form of comfort from some stress or tension.
Feeling guilty or depressed by eating. Those who suffer from binge eating are not exactly unaware of their conditions. Most of the time, they usually are. They know when they’ve eaten too much but they just don’t have the strength to stop themselves from overeating. That’s why they feel guilty or depressed after eating. Unfortunately, their way of getting over the depression is to go back to what made them depressed in the first place, which is eating.
Obesity. Not all obese people are binge eaters. However, most of them usually are. Obviously, obesity is one of the direct effects of consuming too much food. Eating more than what your body needs and can handle will result in the conversion of food into fat reserves. If you think you are already obese, maybe it’s time to think about how to stop compulsive eating.
If you are showing any of the symptoms above, it is only prudent to consider the possibility that you might just have the disorder. It is good to consult a physician or specialist to help you. They can guide you on how to stop binge eating and start a healthier way of eating.

We all want to live a long life. And to achieve that, we have to live a healthy lifestyle. We need to care for our emotional health, eat healthy, exercise and take a lot of rest and good sleep. Speaking of sleep, I am happy to report that last night, I had a good 11-hour sleep. It is a good thing since I have been having trouble sleeping for many weeks now. It was a restful one and upon waking up, I felt that I can take on whatever the world hands me today.
One thing that helped me have a good sleep is what I did yesterday: I changed our linens! It certainly feels great to lie in bed with fresh linens. It promotes good sleep. When I did a quick inventory, I realized that we need new sets since I getting bored with the old ones’ designs and colors. Moreover, I think that we also need new pillows as the old ones are sagging and old. I saw some really nice ones at the mall last weekend and I will start saving up for them. I was hoping to find some Goose pillows but the sales attendant informed me that they have none. Well, I saw some really nice ones from The White Company. I enjoyed browsing their online store which is very organized and easy to navigate. It sure is a haven for all our bedroom needs and essentials.
